FWIW I'm using this in a project (my custom username field is 'email') and it appears to be working. This is a much needed enhancement. If you're waiting on tests maybe I will try to write some. |

@alvinchow86 if you could write one or two passing tests for this, I'll be glad to merge it quickly and release a new version. |
